This page is an overview of the locality and the mining corporation associated with it.
Lutopan, Toledo City, Cebu
Lutopan, officially known as DAS or Barangay Don Andres Soriano (from the name of the founder of the copper mines), is the largest barangay in Toledo City. A mining district, being the home of Carmen Copper Corporation. In the 1960s through 1980s, the place saw progress mainly through the Atlas Mining (ACMDC) operations, which closed down in 1991. It had a hospital facility comparable to those of Cebu City in terms of quality. Although the shutting down of mining operations in early 1990s greatly affected the place, it continues to be one of the most populated areas of Toledo.
Atlas Consolidated Mining and Development Corporation (ACMDC)
A major restructuring of the Company's assets was undertaken in years 2004 and 2005 with the creation of three special purpose subsidiaries to develop the Toledo Copper Complex, Berong Nickel Project and the Toledo-Cebu Bulk Water and Reservoir Project. As a result, Carmen Copper Corporation (CCC), Berong Nickel Corporation (BNC) and AquAtlas Inc. (AI) were incorporated and, subsequently, were positioned to attract project financing as well as specialist management and operating expertise.
In addition, Atlas incorporated a 100%-owned subsidiary, Atlas Exploration Inc. (AEI), to host, explore and develop copper, gold, nickel and other mineral exploration properties. AEI will also explore for other metalliferous and industrial minerals to increase and diversify the mineral holdings and portfolio of Atlas.
Today, Carmen Copper Corporation is wholly owned by Atlas and has been successfully rehabilitated to become the country's largest copper exporter:
Carmen Copper Corporation (CCC) is a wholly owned subsidiary of Atlas Consolidated Mining and Development Corporation (Atlas). CCC has an operating agreement with Atlas and it has exclusive operating rights over the in-situ mineral resources and ore reserves of Carmen, Lutopan and Biga mineral deposits, collectively known as Toledo Copper Mine Complex covering 1, 674 hectares. This is part of the Atlas mineral property covering 5,218 hectares, consisting of 3,284.48 hectares Atlas-owned mining claims and 1, 934 hectares of mining claims belonging to claim-owners who have valid operating agreements with Atlas. CCC restarted the Toledo mining operation in September 2007.
